これらの詩をすべてつなぎ合わせると、カッコ内の数字が示す通り、12行になることがわかります。――そして、この「12」という数こそが、洞窟の扉に刻まれていた数字の数と一致しているのです。
そこで、それぞれの行のアルファベットを、先頭から順に数えていきます。例えば、扉の最初に刻まれた数字が「38」、1行目の詩の38番目のアルファベットは――
